All axe-tion

Yesterday my dad, boyfriend and i made a one day trip out to the cottage, which was just beautiful. The water was still moving on the lake, the sun was shining, and it was the crisp fabulousness tha made it a perfect meteorological day.

My boyfriend was supposd to be sleeping off a mild fever but since the cottage isn't winterized it was as cold inside as out, which made it hard to spread out and snooze.

So, we split and stacked a massive pile of wood instead. It was fabulous. We started slowly, each setting the other up for a chop with the 5 lb maul, then doing it by groups of five, then each chopping a wheelbarrow full before giving up the axe. It felt great and we were both really happy with spending the afternoon outside, being all useful and strong. And we got to listen to CBC radio for about 6 or 7 hours (from the time we got up, we're not that strong).

Awesome. Of course, not my shoulders are sore and creaking, but it was totally worth it. I think the yoga helped me out too, because I don't have tendonitis, so yay!

Also yay, today is the cookie exchange at Batman's, and I'm really excited for it. Totally unprepared, mind you, but excited. I was thinking I was going to make four different batches of cookies, but I've realized that's totally not the point, since I'll exchange them all away anyways, so that does make things easier. Which, of course, is part of the point. Now, which cookies to make? I have an idea, but I'm not sure yet. I will let you know.

I suppose that's it! Tomorrow is my first day at work, and as I understand it, Tuesday is my first meeting, so no dawdling for me. I have the same cube as last year too, though each of my neighbours has changed. I wonder. Last year I put a few wistful pictures up and couldn't be bothered to decorate any more than that. For only four months, will I do any different? I'll be spending soooo much time there, maybe I should. What will brighten it up? Plants I guess, are the usual. But maybe Australia themed stuff so I can keep my eye on the prize.

Anyway, back into the real world for a little bit. Today is Rob's day to unwrap his fabulous advent giftie from my mom. I swear, it's beautiful. I'll get a picture and show you soon. I'm sure that will brighten his day, once he i s awake. Maybe, splitting and chopping wasn't the best way to heal? Riiiiiight.

Take care
xoxo

re: Cubicle Decorations

A friend of mine turned his cube into a beach... complete with 8ft palm tree. Although I wouldn't recommend hauling a huge palm tree to work on the bus for your first day, it might be worth considering for next week, once things slow down a bit. :)

Oh wait, it's December in the government. Move over "molasses in January", we've got a whole new definition for slow.

thank you... sarcasm man!
