Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Hello,

wow, look how much I'm posting! I'm such a good . Or, conversely, I'm such an aimless, time-on-her-hands . I'll let you decide.

I grabbed a bus that no-one in the worls seems to know exists from Summerside to Charlottetown. Only $12 one way, and the trip was beautiful through the hills and valleys. It's beautiful here, it's especially nice how the red soil contrasts with the green of the vegetation.

Here's some stuff I've learned aboput PEI:

1. it really, really helps if you have a car or at the very least a bike. There's ;lots of stuff going on, but it's a monday in one town, a tuesday in another etc. Because the Island has no public transportation, it makes it hard to get around, and you really can't event hop very well, so you have to have a different mindset while you're here. I've seen lots and done lots, but not the same stuff you'll read about in the guidebooks. It's vedry beautiful, and definitely worth the visit.

2. People are very, very nice here. If you are on the side of the road and think about crossing, all traffic will grind to a halt to let you cross. It's very cool, and you feel all powerful, but it's refraning from using that makes you a master, young grasshopper.

3. Anne of Green Gables is a crutch the province uses for tourism, but thankfully it is all concentrated in the north end at Cavendish, where you apparent'y cannot get away from it. I don't know, I haven't been there, I'm only saying what I hear. And see. And am trying to avoid.

The last few days with Liz and Frank (people I met in the Madeleaines) have been wonderful. We showed up in Summerside for the Lobster week festival, and found the place pretty . We thought we'd be at loose ends but then we went to the harness races, betting and winning 8/10 bets, coming in 2nd once, and losing only one!!! It was so cool, but because we were doing the hedger's bets and betting that our pick would come top three, we'd win, like, 20 cents per round and such. It was extremely fun, though. Then we went down tothe lobster warehousewholesale plae and got same day lobster for $7 lb and cough a few of those and ate then in a picnic feast in thehotel room on plastic. Classy! And delicious. I'm taking a little seafood break because I've had lobster, some kippers and something else fishy so far on this trip, and I feel like I've had enough for a while. I've tris the things I want to try, and I'm done till there's something new to do.

What else did we do? I got my first round of pictures taken off my camera and burned to disk. I sure hope it worked, because otherwise, they're gone. Also, I mailed them to the Didgeman, so I hope the postal system works, because otherwise, oh well. I saw an enormous mess of jellyfish in the sea last night! It was so cool! I htink that the tide made pushed them together, and they were very cool looking. Pink ones and purple ones, and very cool looking. Last night as well we went out to the PEi bagpipes anhighland dance college for their big show, which was really, really good. All the kids learning the pipes, the drums, highland dance and step dance put together a show that someone wrote about the history of dance coming to the new world from scotland. It was a really excellent show and we had a great time there. They were really really good. And holy cow, do dancers ever have nice bodies. Very impressive athletics. The musicians were in good shape too, there were only three, but two of them played at least 4 instruments each , and one guy sang on top of that as well. Well, bnot at the same time, but you get the picture. Very cool.

Finkle-Update! I wore my fan club shirt in town today to give my other black t-shirt and the general public's noses a rest and I got three comments (all positive and or/curious) but no new members. I'll keep trying :)

Okay, there's been more stuff, but that's cool. Gotta go make dinner (cous cous and veggies again) and check out the music on the pier. The sun finally came out and I aim to enjoy it. It's been rainy and cold here, and I know I'm not complaining as my pals in Ottawa are roasting at home.

Late on, more to come for sure. Charlottetown is a lovely old town made for strolling and looking around, and has a nice harbour to boot. The two days I'll be here won't give me time to do it justice, but it's a good start. more later, as I'm bound to think of some hilarious thing that happened to me that I desperately want to share 10 seconds after I sign off. Thanks for stopping by
xoxo
