Well, it's been an eventful few days. I'll see what I can remember, casting back.
I finished my time in Charlottetown enjoying some music and some local microbrewary beer with Liz and Frank. We had such a fgod time together! I stayed in the Aloha Amigo tourist home which has a hilarious proprieter called Maynard. It's a close to a hostel as you are going to get in Charlottetown. If you are planning to visit PEI, which I totally fully recommend, talk to me abot it becaue I have some ideas o how it can be best explored, despite the lack of public transport.
On Saturday I caugh a shuttle to Halifax NS instead of heading straight to Cape Breton in order to visit with my pal Kerri. The shuttles around the Altlantic provinces are the way to go as they are cheaper than buses and get you door to door. SOmetimes, like in PEI they are the only option. The first shuttle I called to book (as given to me by the tourist board) turned out to forward me to a 19+ adult 1-900 number...whoopsie! Thanks, tourism PEI!
Anyways, I found a shuttle that left at noon so I could have a good breakfast and make the drive out. I've been eating quarts of local PEI strawberries (litereally, about a quart per day i Charlottetown) which can't be healthy, but it sure is damn delicious. And oatmeal with strawberries is good too .Who knew?
Anyways, the shuttle was $20 cheaper than the bus and it dropped me off at Kerri's door only four hours after we left PEI. Sweet. AND I got to see the confederation bridge which I didn't think I would get to do. Holy crap, longest bridge EVER. I was in a van so I could see over the guard rail, and truly it's a spectacular feat of engineering.
Last night I went out with Kerri, her roomie, and a zillion of their friends to the Lower Deck, and then the Alehouse in Halifax, and it ROCKED. There were excellent live bands and it's been a long time since I've been inspired to dance like I did for the time I did. We got home at 5 am. Holy-o I never thought I'd do that again, but it was super. The music was great, so was the company, and I felt like I'd really arrived. The ands were called Merimac and Pogey, and I'm sure they have web site. If you are organizing a festival, book them, they'll make the night amazing. We wer surprised, but we truly didn't hear one crappy song the whole night, which is part of the reason we couldn't leave. I've got a serious crush on Halifax.
Serious. Crush.
Today we got up at 10. Well, 10:30. Whatever. Kerri took me on a big fat tour of the south shore, and it was sunny and hot ad fabulousand I SWAM IN THE OCEAN! First swim of the trip and it was fabulous. I felt like such a kid because I was frolicking like one. If I were the type, I would have been squealing with joy. What a nice feeling. Then we went to see her cute parents for dinner and continued th tour going the scenic way home. I'm gettingspoiled absolutely rotten, andit's ridiculous, but you won't hear me complaining.
I'm super excited about tomorrow because I kick off my tourism in Halifax with a spree in the Moutain Equipment Co-op. I'm frothing at the mouth to get a dry bag stuff sack for my clothes, and to buy some more appropriateclothes. Then I'm going to drop some more cash at the post office to send my extra stuff home. I'll also maybe do a load of wash which will allow me to make sure that my packageof clothes doesn't get thebomb squad over to light my stuff on fire due to the peculiar smell. I actually think my pack in smelling up Kerri's apartment (whoopsie), but hey, it's all part of the joy of camping?
Kerri's neighbourhood is swanky enough and it's close to town and a huge trail system in a lovely park. AND close to Alexander Keith's home (read: castle) and a few houses that could probably comfortable house the etire population of the Bahamas. I'll see if I can figureout how to post pictures. If I can't, then, uh, sorry about that.
Where are all my stories? They happen but then I forget to write them. Oh yeah, last night I was groped by a woman for the first time. Aw, speial moments. This large woman came up behind me in the bar ad my immediate irrational thought was "oh, here's my boyfriend" but then I thought "but there's long fingernails and I'm in Halifax and Jesus are those boobs?". Those thoughts took a billionth of a second, then I hear on my ear " I'm going to the bathroom, and I'm going [the way that means I'll have to jam my body between you and the wall in what will no doubt be an incredibly awkward and uncomfortable eon-length moment] and I was all, dorkily "wellactuallyit makesmoresenseforyoutogoaround etc" but I may have said it too fast because she starts chatting to Kerri and Kerri, bless her heart, was plain and told the woman the fastest way to get away. WHich she did, and I laughed so hard because holy crap, who gets rubbed up by women in a bar. Well, I guess lots of people, but it was definitely a first for me. So there, I have expanded my horizons to include yet another awkward moment. Surely can't have enough of those.
Awesome.
More as I can think of it. As alwasys, thanks for you lovely comments. And thanks for checking in. Later!
xo
