Winning at shopping

Because I don't live in the USA and don't have access to the couponing schemes that can net you free food and products, I make do with Canadian points systems. Most aren't worth the time, however I like to collect PC points, I occasionally collect Canadian Tire money, and now, I'm in on the Shoppers drug mart game.

Everyone's heard of shopper's optimum points but I never really collected.

I am boring myself as a write this, so I imagine things must be worse for you. Here's the long and short of it:

- I only by the minimum needed to trigger massive points collections on certain days: 20x points day, spend $75 and get 18,500.
- I combine that with buying items I need that have other bonuses attached, such as buy 2 get 5000 points.
- I will only spend my points when I max out the 95,000 max point limit
- And I will only spend the points on one of 2 occasions a year where you get bonus $20 when you spend your 95000 points.

If I make sure I only buy things I need/want/are a good price, then I estimate I can spend $350 (maybe less if I get more bonus points opportunities on products I need) and get $200 in returns off the points.

So long as I buy things I would anyway at regular or better prices, the rate of return is the best of the points.

It's helps if you are obsessive and have time to kill (obviously).

What's new?

Nothing much man. Maybe I should jump into these memes that are going around. Pre-emptively: I had Kashi for breakfast, but I decided I should just make my own granola with organic oats. So there, my boring blog meme.

Today after work we are picking up a wild sockeye salmon (I think?) that we got hooked up with. No idea what to do with it though. We bought a filleting knife, which is about the most this city slicker (I hear you laughing) can do.

I hope your day was less boring than mine!
