I had a nice weekend. Here’s some stuff we did:
1. Went 30 minutes south of town to a little neighbourhood in the woods to have dinner and drinks worth some old/new friends. This couple met in the Yukon on a field course, and rob knew the dude from middle school and high school in Ottawa…they found each other through Facebook and we’re all really happy about it. Their cabin in the woods is gorgeous and we had an amazing bison roast for dinner. Hells yeah. I regret not having my camera for the ride home in the setting sun (past 11 pm) through the mountains and across the river. Also, their dog is a husky/corgi mix (yeah, you heard me) and she is so freaking cute…a husky with extra big ears, smaller frame and stumpy tail.
2. We saw a moose cow in town (edge of downtown area) disappearing into some woods. So cool! So big! Makes me think twice about making our way home through woods if she’s got a baby with her.
3. We got bikes. The plan was to get me a used bike, but we ended up getting Rob a used cruiser and me a new bike, since used bikes are hard to come by at this time of year and I didn’t want to wait. First new bike since I was 13. Plus we supported an independent local businessman. Nice. My helmet had flowers and I call it my maximum girl helmet. Kewl.
4. We went to Shipyards Park and rob flew his toys while I read and ate goodies, and then we played catch for a while. Soaking up the sun and enjoying life.
5. We biked almost all the way around the airport. Turns out it’s not paved all the way around and riding in sand is hard. I’ll go back to bring you pictures of the views over town and the river below, it was mind blowing. Having beautiful surroundings matters a lot to me so this is a good thing.
6. Slept so freaking well. The kind of week-redeeming sleeps that feel so good.
7. Managed to squeeze in laundry and rob cleaned a bit which was pretty necessary. Not done but since we caved and started using the dish washer it’s been pretty nice.
8. I finished Jane Eyre and then launched into my Bitch book, which is a collection of essays from the magazine. Interesting dichotomy. I love reading the essays. The last one I read was about the pressures sexism puts on males to behave a certain way especially as related to libido compared to their female partners.
9. I need new pants but haven’t remembered to go shopping yet. One pf my pairs of jeans just popped a little hole in the crotch which means they are retired from work. And no doubt should have been long ago. Freaking pants shopping.
