Sundog, I think it's called. The sun is on the left, rising in the morning, and atmospheric ice crystals make this bright tar like thing on the right. Eventually there were two I think. Very cool effect. This is taken through our living room window.

hey chica...thanks for the update and pics! It's looking COLD (but lovely) up there right now. It looks like you have quite the hike into town...how long does it take?
