Weekend Round-up

Well, this weekend I feel like I have something to report!

Friday we went to the Hayden show. We'd had tickets forever, and Hayden is in Rob's top 5 people to see so that was really fun. Hayden told good stories, sang lots of great tunes, new and old and it was great. We also saw a friend (not a super close friend, but still) who had suffered a big stroke before Christmas. He couldn't speak at the time, but he managed really well with us, though his cadence was off and it was obviously work to chat. So it was wonderful to see him and the show. No pictures because I don't like flashes during performances, and also I forgot.

Then on Saturday I started off by getting a little schoolwork done (!) and then I fell in a super grumpy mood. When Rob got back from jamming with his buddy we went out snowshoeing. It was dinner time, so the sun was down and we went though Waterloo park, which of course was lit up a bit. It was snowing and beautiful, and it cured my bad mood. And I used my snowshoes for the second time in two years. Awesome track record. And, no pictures because I forgot.

Sunday we woke up, ate sourdough french toast for brunch, suited up and went cross country skiing at our local Conservation Area. It was $4/each and we decided it was worth it because the groomed trails are nice and we are still learning/remembering to ski. It was the perfect day, warm but still below freezing, brand new snow, bright sun and not too many people out. And, we took pictures!!!
Getting ready to hit the trails :-)

Nice-n-easy to learn how to ski. There were some inclines and little downhills, but pretty gentle all in all. We have another park nearby that's got groomed trails, free to use, that is full of long, big hills with turns. We'll get there.
Can I tell you how excited I was to wear my knitted sweater cross country skiing? And to have my jeans rolled up in my woolly socks (couldn't find my other gaiter). Awesome.

When we got home we set to improving the office. We sawed off the bottom of an ikea shelf and put it in the office, allowing me to clear up half the desk or more. Beautiful. Now, one of Ludwig's all time favourite places to sleep is on the computer tower. We ruined that for him and it was sad to see him try to cram under the shelf. we put in ll my book sand random stuff off the desk and had some extra space. I figured I'd move the printer there. Then, Ludwig moved in and it's still his favourite place in the office.
A place for everything, and everything in his place. So, no printer on the shelf.

Finally, I decided I wanted to make udon noodles. They are the fat, chewy noodles used in miso soups and various veg stir fries in Asian cooking (Japanese, generally, but elsewhere too). I found a recipe that looked awesome and set to it. It's super fun because the noodles are so chewy, you can't really use a pasta machine, they HAVE to be made by hand. Well, hand and food. Part of the kneading of the dough is done with your feet (the dough is double wrapped in plastic and a dishcloth, of course). The dough is left to sit, then rolled out with the feet then a rolling pin, cut and boiled. They worked out great and we had an awesome udon noodle stirfry for lunch today. Hooray! I have plans for my next batch and I think they are going to be a noodle staple around here. Fresh, delicious, cheap and easy to make. And fun. And CHEWY! I'm happy.

Then we watched family guy episodes and went to sleep. Good weekend, totally.
