I used to be an awesome saver. Now, I fear I am a bad saver. I mean, I have the basics done and I'm not in debt, but man. I think it's because I felt it was safe to visit Value Village to mission shop a few tops for myself, and Rob was going to look for shorts, and we needed a new jug since the glass one (NOT the pottery one, C!) got cracked int he sink.
Here's the Tally of the aftermath:
Both: One AMAZING Alabama themed jug shaped like and over sized mason jar with a freaking spout an lid. It's glass, which is mandatory for me, sports the state and biggest cities as well as peanuts (main crop?) and some peach blossoms in a soft pink. I will make a batch of sweet tea just for it. I am delighted. It was $3.
Marianne: 2 pairs of jeans, one jean skirt, one flowy hippy skirt, 2 or three tops, a cute bag that's more of a casual purse, and not a sling across!, 2 nesting bowls that will be great for cereal and ice cream. 3 sets of circular needles and one set of size 15mm (that's 25's for you Batman!) knitting needles. Grand total: $53.
Rob: Beautiful new winter athletic coat, lined with cell phone and headphone pockets, armpit vents and the whole bit, GAP (big score of the day!), a change dish for the van, a van, fancy cords, a shirt, a brand new Bodum 2 or 3 (or 4?) cup Bodum French Press. I don't know how much he spent.
As always, it's not much compared to what we got, but the expense is still there! Anyway, it's no big deal, we're pretty pumped with the new stuff! Now, to replace some stuff and oust crap from our apartment. The cats do their part by breaking stuff, now it's our turn!
The new obsession: cycling. It's here and it's got both of us TIGHT.
I got a beautiful road bike I call Samantha Fox (she's an 80's princess too) and we both scored some sweet cruisers at the dump. We took out first uneventful (i.e. neither bike broke, no tubes exploded) tour yesterday and things went great. They are so easy to ride and fun too! Mine has a chain guard, 5 speeds and is green. Rob's is brown and has a few gears too. We love them. My racing bike is in perfect shape with great shimano shifters (they click into place, hooray) but the tube explode the other day, whoopsie! It was dramatic, but no one was hurt since the tube exploded while the bike was on its side in the sun, rather than earlier in the day when I was riding it pretty hard around town!
Anyway, we're into it and we love it. Yay cycling! Next step is to call all the used bike shops and see if they can get me some panniers and bike bags on the cheap. This is all really fun, I think by next season we'll be ready (mentally, anyways) for a more serious tour! We're learning how to fix bikes already as we change brake lines, diagnose issues, make adjustments and change tubes and tires. We're getting there.
Anyhoo, things are good. That's it for my exciting life for now!
PS Friday is Skinny Kitty's thing in Guelph. I'm going to bike out there...who else wants to come!?

When you say that Rob got a van, do you mean an actual van van? Like a vehicle that you drive down the road in? At Value Village?
Sounds like a big haul from VV. You'll be making some airy fabric with 25s!
Wow, the bikes sound great and so... you.
I'm glad you're going to the concert Friday. If I was closer I would be there.
I did a double take on the van statement too. Maybe it was a hotwheels van?
more info, please!
Whoops, I don't know what I meant to say with the van bit. No vans came home. ALhtough, he does have a van model that he has made exactly the same as the big one and installed in the dash behind plexiglass. Thge LED headlights blink with the alarm. Sorry for the confusion!
You are a good saver! It sounds like you are one of hte thriftiest (resourceful) people I know. I need some tips for sure. Maybe on jams and preserves this fall?
You still biking up to my place?
It will be good to see you tonight if you still plan on coming!
