Thursday Thirteen

1. I went to a cool wind energy talk tonight, turns out it's no longer really an alternative energy source, it's a full on commercial and corporate energy source! Also, if we had the same number of turbines as Germany, Ontario could permanently shut down all our coal plants. (also, Germany employs 15o,ooo or so people in wind energy sector).

2. I made and ate a yum carrot soup. Mmm for soup.

3. I feel lucky to be in school

4. I am thinking more and more about a hliday..an outdoor holiday. I want to go on a week long hike . We can't right now, or anytime close to know, but I like thinking about it.

5. Our mattress (while unreturnable since we ripped the underside of it putting it on the frame for the first time, whoopsie!) is turning out great and we don't need to return it. Hallelujah!

6. Our dwarf frog, Lucy, is osmehow still alive sespite living in a fairly fetid tank and getting stalked by two cats daily. She's a trooper.

7. I got my first-time mail ordered yarn today! It's originally from Japan (whoops) and that may explain why the balls are small? Anyhoo, it was a good experience, but I bet I stick to finding used yarn for my future projects.

8. I ate out tonight. Only a pita, but a first for a while. It was good, except I'm majorly burping garlic.

9. I made nice vegetable stock for the first time in a while. Usually I have a weird bunch of veggies or I add too much pepper or something. This stuff is nice. Now all I need is freezer space...

10. I got a great big hug when I got home. Funny the wonders that will do when you're not feeling so hot in general.

11. The cat Molly is acting way more relaxed since we moved here. Actually, she's started using her voice more and seems to htink that any activity in the kitchen means she'll get something great out of it (the only thing she ever gets is the rare bit of tuna water frm a can.)

12. The students I met with who did super bad on their midterms turned out to be really sweet, even when I couldn't give them any more marks.

13. I made it to the end of my first Thursday thirteen. This is good! I guess the last thing is that Rob is watching "The Patriot" which I don't have any desire to watch, so instead I can hang out on the computer and try and make myself do more marking.

Exciting stuff!

About replacing coal plants with wind turbine: What do you do when the wind isn't blowing? Or when the wind is blowing at half the turbines' rated speed and their output is only one-eighth their capacity? Or when there's a heat wave and everyone turns on their air conditioners, but there's no wind (which is why it's so hot)? Etc.
