Harvest time

Carolyn and Murray came by this Friday/Saturday, and on of our activities was to hit up the St Jacobs market on Saturday. Rob was in for some busking (he had a really good day) and the rest of us took in the sights. Anfd bought food, oh did we buy food.

This is approximately half the apples and pears I bought (combined total $11) since I already had my first batch of sauce on the stove when I thought to take pictures. I guess I got a bushel of each.

Here's a view of the second batch of sauce, with concord grapes from another trip to the market (MMMM) I borrowed mom's dehydrator so I've got fruit roll-ups on the way too.

Oh baby, oh yeah. Saucy!

I love this time of year. It's a time to fill the freezer (we finally have a regular/big freezer! Whee!) With all the fruit and veggies we can so that we don't banckrupt ourselved or get scurvy this winter. And I've signed up for the community garden as well, to get free organic veggies when the time comes.

All this because I'm really sick of hearing about cancer. So many times I've heard cancer stories and they are getting closer and closer to home, that I'm going to say 'no' to preservatives, pesticides, chemicals an weird crap that is common in food these days as much as I can. Our bodies have enough to deal with in the air and water, and I think we're starting to see the ffects of what we've gotten ourselves into. Food is such an important part of life and I think it's time I start treating it with more respect.

And also, I clearly get a huge kick out of putting food by. So good. Next on the list is a bushel of italian tomatoes to stew and jar, for sauces and such all winter long. No more cans, I hope! I really like the idea of preparing food. My other goal is to have all our food in the fridge in glass, not plastic. It's too weird with the estrogens and stuff, and also glass doesn't keep smels or stain, and its mega re-useable.

Being back at school has helped give me the time to do these things which are so important to me, as well as encourage and remind me that this is worth investing in.

Oh yeah! Check out www.didgemandidgeridoos.com, Rob's been giving it a makeover and soon there will be sound and video files as well! The picture of the big didge on the splash page is an authentic one he crafted himself. It's beautiful. We were worried about Waterloo, but were discovering that beyond the big box stores and strip malls (so many strip malls) there is lots here for both of us. This is a good thing. We are feeling good about Waterloo now (though I still think the word 'Waterloo' is funny sounding).

So I guess I've been feeling pretty good about being here. Most stuff seems to have fallen into place fairly well. School is good. I'm thinking about a thesis possibility. The only thing left is getting fit, or feeling better about my body. I always talk about being active, but I never really do anything about it. Rob and I want to try squash, so maybe sometihng will come of that. I think it's time that I get a 25 year old's body, because now's the best time for that, I think.

Well, next up, pics of the aprtment, rian or shine (i.e. tidy/untidy.) I've come t the conclusion that have a tidy house and the camera at the ready are mutually exclusive, and something's gotta give.

hasta
xoxo

wow that's a lot of fruit! I'd like to try canning sometime (pickles, especially) but it's going to have to wait until I'm a little more organized. Too many other things on the go right now.

Glad to hear that you two are starting to get comfortable in the 'loo!
