Ways

Top Ten Ways to injure yourself during moving in (* indicates I did this while moving in)

10. Stab yourself with a dull steak knife you're using as a box cutter*
9. Hook a doorknob with your hip while walking with boxes (lather, rinse, repeat)*
8. Collect billions of tiny splinters in palms from raw didge logs*
7. Trip down stairs (catch yourself)*
6. Trip up stairs (catch yourself) *
5. Eat Swiss Chalet overdone fries with coleslaw for dinner*
4. Suddenly lose balance due to fatigue and right yourself with a hi-hat stand (pointy!)*
3. Trip on lip to door that was not there before and sit down heavily on tailbone carrying heavy box. Get disproportionalley upset*
2. Stub toes repeatedly on freaking lip to door that WAS NOT THERE BEFORE*****
1. Move giant cactus carefully...so carefully, only to hug it right where the bubble wrap isn't*

Okay, so we're in! The place is loking more like a place and less like the Salvation Army Depot so that's going well. Today is the first day of classes which is cool. I'm interested to meet my thesis advisoe, but that likely won't happen for a bit, since we can't seem to coordinate our schedules. Which, seeing as how I have a 4 day weekend all the time (it's like being in arts! who knew!?) that doesn't bode too well.

In other news there is a chance I may get to volunteer TA for a field trip to Texas, checking out all the cool green roofs and green buildings on the way down. We'll see hpw that works out, but it sounds good, so I may get a chance to go. I had no idea that Austin, Texas was a Kerry voting, non-republican island of hope in the great state of oil profits. There's a successful green hotel there tht only serves organic food and that is SO COOL.

Other than that, it's little things like forgetting to move rent money into my chequing account and possible bouncing the first rent cheque (whoopsie!) and forgetting to get the internet set up (whoopsie!) but other than that, life is good. Time for lunch then my first day of class! I'm all bright eyed and bushy-tailed and I picked out my clothes (red t-shirt; jeans; pink shoes) bought a new bike lock since I demolished the last one (I'll explain in a sec) and here I am.

The bike lock. Once we moved in our place was chock ablock with boxes and boxes and I had to go to school to meet with the prof I'll be working with as a TA. I wanted to ride my bike, since it was too late to walk. I searched and found my u-lock, th4n I searched and searched and ransacked, eventually, and found my key! Hooray! That was lucky!

But wait, the key doesn't work. The lock has seized! AAAAAARGH. I smacked, I wrestled, I fumed, and finally, I got the pliers.

I demolished the key. I felt better, like there was no way to be expected that i could have made it work if PLIERS couldn't do it. So I grabbed a padlock and an old cat leash (security!) and went on my merry way.

I'd leave the story there except as I was acting out my injustice to my mom later that evening she casually mentioned that we have the same lock, so probably I took hers instead of mine, which we can't find. So basically, I demolished the key to a perfectly good lock.

Today, I bought a big fat cord lock that comes with 5 keys.

I'm interested to see if rational thinking (or lack thereof) comes up as a point of interest in my degree at any time. If so, maybe I'll just make up for it with...uh, passion. Right??heh.

gotta run

I hope they are round doorknobs, not the flat handle type that you had growing up. Those are deadly. On a brighter note, all of this hip pain means that you actually have doors between rooms! What a concept!

Can't wait to see a picture or two once you're semi-settled.

Oh MAN, youremember those doorknobs Alan? They are SO unforgiving and when I waslittle I used to pund my head into them, then my shoulder and now hips. I haven't clipped one in a while though and that is totally due to the early stage training I've had :)

I promise that as soon as Rob gets back with the camera and we get internet (today, and the 24th, respectively) we'll get pictures up.

see you guys! xoxo
