Rest in peace, Limey, home painted, basically home-made car. You were good to us, till you crapped out. The second, more permanent time. Unfortunately after you crapped out the first time we labelled you as DNR (by me, on the side of the highway in the rain at night when I was feeling not so forgiving and maybe a little bitter), and as such, no di-fibrillating, clutch-restoring work will be done on you. Your protests were registered as you fusing your doors shut, your shocks locking up in cold weather (it's okay, my shocks lock up in cold weather too, sometimes), the rattling and the funny smells. I understand, it can be tough to let go. We will miss you, since you were very convenient and now we will have to carry our own heavy things back from the store. I have officially missed my chance to learn to drive standard on you. Though possibly that would have aggrivated the whole clutch situation, so maybe that was a good thing, in retrospect. In any case, you chugged along 'till you just couldn't take it anymore, and thanks for your great months of service. And hey, maybe soon we can legitimately stop paying for a parking space!
May all the roads of heaven be your first glorious kilometer, and not your 300, 000th.
Also, anyone want to buy a wicked cool VW golf with lots of new (non-clutch) parts? For serious. She's got whatever you need for your slighlty more glorious, slighly less dead VW Golf! Woot!

When those vw clutches go, they really go.
I remember when dad blew the clutch on the jetta (aka "the white rocket"). The car wouldn't go anywhere, it just made an ominous tinkling sound whenever you let the clutch out. Practically every piece in the engine compartment had to come out for that job. A friend was visiting that day and remarked "I don't think I've ever seen a car this far *apart* before today". When dad finally got the new part in, the leftover broken pieces of clutch filled the better part of a plastic grocery bag. They were stll making their trademark ominous tinkling sound too...
I'll ask dad if he wants another vw. I'm thinking...no.
