Words

I just came across a great word: perplexed.

Perplexed is a word that says without effort exactly what it means. "I'm perplexed" states a sense of confusion in a slightly humerous, bemused sort of way, to allow for just the right amount of concern in without sounding too grave.

Perplexed. Say it out loud. it's satisfying, isn't it? like my all time favourite french word: 'pamplemousse'. To say 'grapefruit' is boxy and not at all silky, like its linguistically superior cousin. Pamplemousse is a word that demands you slow it down and roll it out of your mouth in an orderly, inentional way. Like letting good chocolate melt on your tongue. Pohm-pluh-mooooo-sssssss. It's gorgeous to say. Try it, for real. Seriously, no-one will laugh.

Another word I like: doily. How can you argue with a word like doily? It's like trying to discuss tax law with a magic eight ball. you can't, it just is. Or, at least 'it is meant to be'. Or maybe 'not likely'.

Words I don't like :
- mortgage (its spelled and sounded out like you are clearing one of those air bubbled from your throat. It makes no sense to me. ugh.
- Anything mis-spelled on purpose, especially if it's a billboard of some sort, but that's an essay for another day. I mean, kanata klassic bowl? What about the children?
- sweetbreads, but only because it is a gross misrepresenation of the actual product.

that's all I can think of right now. Anyone else have any feelings on favourite or terrible horrible words?
later gators.

the only thing i can come up with on the spot is the word lisp and how not cool it is for a person with a lisp to have to say that word. i mean honestly!

blimp is among my favourites, right alongside doily. Blimp. Buullllllimp. I'm seriously entertaining myself right now.

It doesn't get much better than doily though, I admit.
