British Columbia, where everything is supersized!
So, I'm in Sidneyon the southeast coast of Vancouver Island, right close to Victoria. Franks and Liz took me out on a bike ride yesterday after Liz and I came back from aquafit class. We biked around a bit to a park and thorugh some huge tress to a wonderful little farm and visited with some very cool people for a little while. And had fresh apple crumble with apples from the tree.mmm, that's right. On the way back I saw some giant slugs on the path, like easily 4 inches long and more, I'm sure. The oyster burgers here are made with a single oyster as a patty, and I'm told they can do that with clams too....they jelly fish I've seen are bigger than dinner plates. Holy man, what are the bears like???
SO, today I'm off on a nother adventure. My extra-generous hosts are taking ma round Vancouver Island a bit (including Tofino so I can take a surfing lesson, take that list of 101 things to do in 10001 days!). We're then going to ferry to the mainland and drive and possibly camp through Whistler and other areas until we reach Barriee .What's i nBarriere, you ask? Why my fist ever rodeo and cowboy dance is, of course! Needless to say I'm extremely excited about all this. Internet will be spotty between now and then, so expect an interesting update when I return, possibly early next week. An update including an account of a cowboy dance, oh I can hardly wait!
Last night Frank and Liz's son in law Mike took me on a tour of his work pace, and air traffic control tower...which was so very cool. Having flown in planes, I have to say it's so interesting to know how it all works. These people have to litereally coordinate the arrival and departure of all the planes and helicopters, including lear jets, cessnas, helicopters, people passing through and more, all at once. Incredible. Now that is a stressful freaking job. SO I saw a couple planes land ,saw all the gadgets, understand the systems (in a vague, superficial way) and was very vey impressed with the whole thing. It's a job where yu can't stop what you're doing ever, or stop concentrating ever. Ad they don't, thank pete .
Yay new experiences!
I still have the feeling of missing my partner and feeling a little off about having these experiences solo rather than tandem, but I'm really enjoying myself and not ready at all to go home. I realized last night that it's not a case of wanting to go home, it's a case of wanting home to come here! Anyways, it's a beautiful place, and my nesting adventures will continue in the future regardless, so I may as well dance with a cowboy and learn to surf. These skills ar important when househunting, right?!
Alright, gotta go pack my glorious bag and get myself ready to go. There are used books to buy and breakfasts to eat. Yeah, I said breakfasts. Oh, I kid. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi, M
I so wish I was there especially to go surfing....that sounds awesome!!
And you are right, I'm going to be here when you get back so even though you're terribly missed, you enjoy yourself.....go surfing and go dance with a cowboy....just maybe not too close, okay? ;)
Stay warm, stay safe,
Your Didgeman xoxoxoxoxoxoxox
okay r, you are SO CUTE! i'm really happy for you two. did i mention that you're cute? m, i'm glad your new friends are taking you around, that's a sweet deal. are you going to see any whales while there?
M, I can't believe you're on the opposite side of the country...and I only missed you by a week or so! You're right though...Halifax is awesome, and I'm RIGHT downtown.
See if you can sweet-talk a cowboy into giving up a hat, will you? You'd look great in one. And if it doesn't fit then you can always donate it to a certain person who happens to like cowboy hats but doesn't have one...
Can't wait to hear about your surfing adventures. There's a song by 'The Planet Smashers' called 'Surfin' in Tofino'. You should download it. It's one of my faves.
Okay, keep having a blast and I'll talk to you soon.
