cha-ching

On our way home from work today we popped in to the superstore for a few things. On impulse we bought 2 bags of chips (it IS friday, after all) and some vinegar (not an impulse, but still).  At the checkout we notices they scanned wrong. The lady scanning said she could undo it and change us the right price or we could go to customer service and get it free. She could have done it but whatever. Long story to medium, the CS lady was new, couldn't figure out the system and refunded us $8.50 for the vinegar and 2 bags of chips (total value approx. $3.50). So, in the style of Jill the Juneau cyclist, I'm going to keep a tally. But not exercise miles. No, more gratifying than fitness. I'm charting my savings.

Date: March 27
Total saved today: $8.50
Total March savings: $80.50
Total savings to date: $80.50 (because I'm counting the printer price match I got 20 days after purchase).

I'm gonna keep track. I will count things I paid one price for, then got a discount later due to consumer ninja-ing. No fair counting clearance items (1L stainless steel water bottles on for $2.85? I'll take three!), no fair counting regular sales. Only legit shopping-fu free money.

I feel that this will, eventually, give me WAY TOO MUCH JOY.

In other news, things are good here in the Jamaica of the north. It's melty as hell and we're having fun driving around buying all kinds of stuff. Starting April we will officially be keeping track of purchases and implementing a straight up budget, since we will have pretty much bought all our start up special purchases and April is the month where we will both be in line for regular paycheques, which means a predictable income. Which means time to budget with a spreadsheet. Aw yeah! I'm freaking stoked! our "savings" from month one and probably 2 will go towards buying the car we are borrowing, but after that whee. Savings. I'm still rolling that word around in my mouth. Gonna be sweeeeeeet

We had soy burgers and fries and I have skittles for later. We got a paper which means we have the tv guide and tomorrow we are going to the community garden meet up a the library. Then I'm going to buy some shoes. And check out the bikes. I'm thinking it's going to be a very nice weekend.
