Weekend update

I failed to bring my camera out with me. Won't happen again.

Friday:

I got up early and caught a ride into town with my aunt. I went to my interview and pretty much got demolished. It wasn't bad, but very , very rigid. A panel of three people asked me questions, sometimes two-parters in sequence. Nothing about me personally, no chatting, no joking (!) It was very clear I was not who they were looking for! Some of the questions were kind of general, meaning I felt like I could sidestep a bit, but most were brutal..."tell us about a time you introduced a product into a market, and what were the greatest accomplishments and obstacles associated?"..."the new Yukon Energy Independence Policy has not been launched, what are some issues you would expect to encounter with it and how would you address them" etc.

Holy crap, I was sweating those ones. So, on the way out, I knew. I'm glad for the experience, but man. I think they wanted me five years down the line. On to the next!

I spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out at my Aunt's workplace, reading and snacking on veggies. Then I went into town and shopped around for a cell phone. Didn't take long since apparently you can only use Bell if you are doing pay as you go, and there's only one cheapest phone when you are doing pay as you go. So, I'm the "proud" owner of a new phone with more bells and whistles than I will ever need, but it's a phone and I have a number so that's good. I will be using it on all my resumes and applications from now on, and I'll take it with me wherever I move around town. It's a business only phone, thanks to the costs associated.

I decided to walk home. I took a wrong turn and that plus the time wandering around town I think I was walking a brisk clip for about an hour. By the time I got home my legs were very cold. I had on long johns and my feet were fine but my legs were super cold. I decided that I'm going to look into heavier duty long johns for walking and riding a bike around town. Well. That's all fine. I warmed up, had a shower, drank tea and felt recovered from the cold. But then, as I was walking around the house I noticed that my skin crinkled a bit right where the top of my leg hits the bottom of my butt. I thought about it, I didn't strain any muscles, I wasn't cut, there was no rash or rubbing, and then I figured it out. I think I literally froze my ass outside in the Yukon.

That's kind of awesome.

On Saturday, we had a lazy morning reading, eating and drinking tea. We then headed out for groceries, errands and such. We went to Mark's Work Wearhouse and I used the first part of my gift certificate. I got a reversible fleece earband for $2.75. Then we went to the Canada Games Centre. Oh man, is that place beautiful. It's new (2005), and has 2 rinks (one Olympic sized, one NHL) a lap pool with kiddie area, a kiddie skating rink, an indoor turf gym, a spring floor court gym (both megasized), a running track, physio,, workout etc etc etc. The pool has a 180 degree view of the mountains since the centre is on a hill. It's the most beautiful centre with the most beautiful view I have ever seen. If you visit me, we will go there, and you will love it too. Promise.

Just for the drive, we then went the 20 minutes to the thermal Takhini Hot Springs nearby. We had homemade black forest cake and homemade soup and enjoyed the views from there too. Outside the hot springs there are 3 Ice towers which you can learn to ice climb on. Mondays is cheap night at the hot springs, only $5. I'm expecting to make a habit of it.

On the way out we stopped at Bean North, a place that roasts its own blends of organic fair trade coffee. Of course I couldn't care less about the coffee but the place was cool and if you visit, I'll take you there and we can sit down and have a brew. We'll I'll have tea, but you understand.

Sunday is today. I've been taking it easy, pj's all day for me. I'm preparing my contact list of people I plan to call over the next week or two looking for work. There are a lot of places and I have to make sure not to get too bogged down looking up places and phone numbers and such. So, should be good. This evening, as with all weekend evenings, we will hunker down with knitting or books and watch british mystery tv until bed time.

I'm as content as I can be without my boyfriend and kitties, which is so lucky. I've got it really good. Unlimited tea, a warm cozy bed that I love, an excellent roomie and a new town to love. I suspect more and more each day that it will be more than worth the effort.
