I am feeling pretty good these days. I'm almost on the other side of my self inposed shame spiral for getting behind on school work. I finished up the undergrad marking and handed all that parapernalia in, so that's a big DONE. Now, I just need to finish off the other half of my paper for one class and I'm actuually really done. I wil hopefully get 1.5 weeks off from school. Ish, but ut's good enough for me. I will continue thesis stuff, which I'm happy to sy is getting clearer (I have a field of focus! Mostly! Yesss!) but that'll be casual and enjoyable, for the most part.
I also have started maintenance on my bike. It's a small thing , and well overdue since I got my bike in, oh, eigth grade, but it's good! So farI've installed new brake pads, oiled up my chain (it was getting rusty and crunchy sounding after riding in snow and slush) and installed mudguards. It's a small start but really liked it. There's a local cycle recycle that helps get more people cheap or free bikes so thay have basic transportation and I'm heavily flirting witht he idea of volunteering with them so I can learn all about bikes: taking them apart, assembling them and maintenance/care. It is a good skill to have, I'm interested, and I hope to use my bike to go far someday. Ever since I saw that movie about the canadians who went around the world on human power only. Man! So inspiring.
Anyhoo. I'm on a roll with behaving more like an adult and getting things done and it feel good. Next up is to buy a bus ticket home (Wednesday, folks!) and sign up for winter squash lessons. I also have decided on an elective and have to get special entrance on it, but the prof is my thesis advisor and we're feeling pretty good about it. AND I htink I would like to try an audit an undegrad spanish class. On of my classmates will be doing 9 months of field work in argentina so we're going to try an learn together. Plus, we happen to have access to agreeable, friendly, patient friends (Hi Claire and Agustin!) who actually speak Spanish and may indulge us, especially if we bribe them with wine and chocolate. Sounds good!
More on stuff later. I've abandoned my old sweater project for newwe ideas that are pressing and MUST be done. I'm looking at you, fugl!

what do you mean "audit" the undergrad spanish class? take it? i'm confused.
there are so many sites online to learn spanish. i've been looking into costa rica more and more and a lot of the sites have links to learn-spanish-for-free sites.
i'm hoping i can get by on my french with the odd é and a added on the end of words.... or that enough people will speak english that it won't be a problem.
To audit a class means to attend the class but not take part in any of the exams or assignments. You don't get a credit, al;though I htink it may show up that you audited the class on your transcript. It's for people who want to learn but don't want the workload or particularly need the credit. That waY I could learn spanish, sg to tutorials and stuff, but have no deadlines or tests. I may as well because I'nm a paid full time student planning to take only 2 courses in the winter (which is all that is required).
I found a spanish online site once that had native speaker sound bytes to walk youthrough it, it was a great site. French is an asset! MAybe you could get a Point It book, they are cool and seem helpful. It's a little booklet with real life pictures of EVERYTHING including beds, cuts of beef, everythig, so you can just point at what you want, it's cool.
