Martini to the MAX

Right-o, I've been lazy (read: recovering. heh) from the martini party I threw with the very needed and very appreciated help of my two visiting buddies.

It was a celebration jointly acknowledgin my sister's birthday, Boyfriend's birthday, and Sidter's fiancée's notice of successful permanent residency! It was.so.cool.

First off, I had two of my bestest friends from university visiting me, so, as a practised hostess, I promptly had a lovely evening with them, had a nice sleep in then freaked the day of the party and put them to work hard core. Welcome! They did dishes and went on errands. Went on more errands when we forgot stuff, made me feel less stressed when I was having mini-fits and accompanied me to the liquor store so I felt less like an alkie. They somehow figured out how to turn the bedroom into a for real bar area, lit up with lights and atmosphere, and they did it all with two cats underfoot (or in some cases, overhead). They slept on the floor and smiled the whole time and mingled with people they didn't know and are princesses for ever and ever amen.

At the liquor store I actually had to use a cart and it felt somewhat...embarrassing. The checkout lady was awesome and had a good sense of humour and she managed to check me though ($200 on bottles! cha-chingggg!) and call me a drinker three times so subtly that I was too busy joking around to be offended. LCBO lady rocks.

As for the party itself, I'll get pictures up when I pull out the camera bits and plug it all in . We had round 15 people there, and four drinks on the menu: classic gin martini, blue ice, cosmo, and a not-really martini made up of mint and chocolate liqeurs. Most people found it too sweet and syropy. I had two. My sister made unbelievably fabulous vegetarian pigs in blankets and obscenely delicious mini samosas with mint coconut sauce. So. Good. So we ate well, drank well, and by all accounts, were merry. So cool. There were also mocktails and juice made my my pals so most everyone was accommodated. Thank you Cocktail Parties for Dummies!

p.s. there is a band called Pink Martini that does great cocktail party music, and then, in a pinch, there's always Dean Martin. Setting the mood (whatever mood wasn't already set by the lava lamps, mini disco ball and exposed pipes).

I have more ideas for parties all the time, but I think I need to settle down and plan ahead (*gasp*) and let this season go.

In conclusion, I was delighted and hammered the whole time, and tickled to have so many wonderful people in our little place. If you couldn't make it, have no worries, there's more of something on the way...

Take it easy everyone.
